Welcome to The Healing Current. For this first entry, I wanted to begin with something simple, personal, and deeply woven into my practice: scent.
Aromatherapy, to me, is like tuning a subtle instrument. The right scent can soften the edges of a long day, ground the mind in the present moment, or lift the spirit when the world feels heavy. I use essential oils both in my work and in my own rituals of rest and reconnection.
Here are four of my favorite companions—and how they speak to me, depending on the rhythm of the day or the current of emotion:
Lavender — For quiet, grounding, and gentling the nervous system
Lavender is my anchor. Whether I'm setting the tone for a massage session or unwinding before sleep, this gentle herb brings everything back to center. It soothes anxiety, softens tension, and invites the breath to deepen. I often keep a small roller near my bed or use a few drops in a warm bath.
Orange — For brightness, clarity, and rekindling joy
Sweet orange oil is sunshine in a bottle. It helps shake off mental fog or emotional heaviness, offering a burst of fresh, vibrant energy without feeling too sharp. I like to use it in the morning or diffuse it when I need to shift a stagnant mood. Sometimes I’ll blend it with a little peppermint for a mid-day refresh.
Jasmine — For heart-opening, sensuality, and emotional balance
Jasmine is pure alchemy. Deep, floral, and slightly exotic, it feels like a scent meant for moonlight and sacred self-care. I turn to jasmine when I need to feel more in my body—when I want to soften into presence or rekindle a sense of sensuality and wholeness. It's also a beautiful support for emotional release.
Sandalwood — For inner stillness, spiritual clarity, and sacred space
There’s something timeless about sandalwood. It’s the scent I use when I need to go inward—to meditate, reflect, or reconnect with the deeper layers of spirit. It creates a sense of inner spaciousness, like walking barefoot in a quiet forest. I often use it before Reiki sessions or when preparing ritual space.
Blending Scent with Intention
Every oil has its own voice, its own rhythm. I choose based on how I’m feeling, or how I want to feel. Sometimes, I blend them—orange and lavender for a peaceful uplift, or sandalwood and jasmine for deep emotional stillness.
If you’re new to aromatherapy, start simple. Choose one scent, breathe it in slowly, and let your body respond. Notice what it stirs.
Thanks for joining me on this first step of The Healing Current. I’d love to know—what scents speak to you?
Until next time, Crysania
